GeForce 8600GTS is the fastest of the cards that will become NVIDIA’s new mid-range segment. There have been a lot of talk about what kind of performance it will have, everything from only slightly better than 7600GT up to actually whipping GeForce 7900GS. We’ve seen a number of synthetic benchmarks, but now we have some more figures to go by. The card seems to perform just like a card of the next generation mid-range segment should, I.e. like the previous generation of high-end cards. It’s been pointed out once and again that the narrow 128-bit memory bus would become a bottle neck with higher resolutions, but according to HardwareZone’s tests the card doesn’t seem to be limited by it. Note that the card is overclocked in this preview.
