Much like the rest of you we in the Nordics are proud of our heritage and the old Ásatrú mythology is a big part of this. Thor is one of the better known gods and the thunder god left the house without his trusty follower Mjöllnir. Very sadly, this mighty weapon has been inducted with negative energy by becoming a common symbol among neonazis and racists, which is certainly far from the original purpose of the legendary hammer. In a quick toss to 2009, cooling manufacturer Xigmatek has found a new calling for Thor’s Hammer, namely as the protector of our dear processors.

We have been given some exclusive information on Xigmatek’s coming processor cooler Thor’s Hammer that according to the source will be as feared by the competition as the hammer was feared by the enemies of Thor.

The cooler uses a total of 7 heatpipes for moving the heat from the base up to the massive aluminum heatsink, which in most cases will be cooled by either one or two 120mm fans, but according to Xigmatek it can also work in passive mode with some processors.

Below is the complete specifications of Xigmatek Thor’s Hammer;

Base material Heat-pipe with direct contact
Heat sink material Aluminum alloy
Heat-pipe (1st layer) 4x 8mm
Heat-pipe (2nd layer) 3x 6mm
Fan (optional) 120x120x25mm
Weight 500g
Dimensions (L) x (W) x (H) 120 x 50 x 159 mm
Thermal resisitance 0.145 ℃/W (with 120mm fan)

The cooler supports all new models on the market, including Core i7.

According to the information we have received from Xigmatek’s distributor in Sweden, PCB Distribution AB, internal tests have shown that the cooler is delivering some very promising performance. At the same time it will appear in stores at the end of February and will cost around 60€.

Before we will lay our hands upon Xigmatek’s new cooler you should take the performance indications with a pinch of salt, but if the cooler would live up to the name it certainly looks to become something fierce.

Below are some high resolution pictures of the cooler.
