Semiconductor manufacturer Globalfoundries has great plans for the future and in 2012 it will start making circuits with 28nm technology. Currently there is a lot of work going with upgrading plants and getting the new Fab 8 in Saratoga County, New York, ready. We are now offered a video from inside the building location.

Fab 8 building started in July 2009 and is expected to stand ready for mass production in late 2012. The fab is expected to cost 4.6 billion dollar and will be specialised in 300mm wafers with 28/20nm processes.

Globalfoundries calls the fab the world’s most advanced and covers a surface of six fotboll fields. This will enable the plant to spit out 60,000 wafers a month when production starts. At HardOCP they got a chance to visit the fab, that is only one of many Globalfoundries factories, where you get a pretty clear picture of the enormous infrastructure and advanced technology that is required to make all of our tiny microprocessors.
