One of the biggest complaints with Windows Vista, and to some extent also XP, is that it contains too many features, applications that even the most sophisticated user doesn’t want. These features occupies space and hogs both RAM and CPU. Microsoft has now published information on which features you can turn of in Windows 7.

A bit surprisingly, among these features we find Internet Explorer 8, something we all thought that Microsoft, with the increasing threat from Firefox and others, would keep integrated with Windows. Those of you who are familiar with the beta (build 7000) might recognize the window Windows Features where you can turn on and off these features. What Microsoft has done is increase the number of features the user can control, changes that will become available with the Release Candidate. The changes from the Beta are the following;

  • Windows Media Player
  • Windows Media Center
  • Windows DVD Maker
  • Internet Explorer 8
  • Windows Search
  • Handwriting Recognition (through the Tablet PC Components option)
  • Windows Gadget Platform
  • Fax and Scan
  • XPS Viewer and Services (including the Virtual Print Driver)
