ASUS Eee PC has been a great success, and together with OLPC XO it has set a new bar for what a budget notebook can offer. So far there is no real competition for ASUS Eee PC as OLPC XO is designed for kids in third world countries, and a lot more basic than a normal PC. ASUS Eee PC is more of a regular PC with better performance, but less durability. However it seems that Acer is about to enter the ring. According to Chinese newspaper Commercial Times, Acer is working on budget notebooks with 8″ and 9″ displays and that these should arrive around March/April. Exact details are not available, but the prices are expected to be at the same level as Eee PC.
