Intel’s Core architecture for the stationary market, code-named Conroe, will use the same processor socket as today’s Pentium 4 processors and among others Intel’s 975X chipset will support Conroe. However it has been said that today’s motherboards will not be able to run the Core architecture as they simply doesn’t support the power specification VRM11, which is required by the Core architecture, as it uses lower voltages than today’s processors. There are motherboards can handle the Conroe processors though and at HKEPC they’ve now showed that even an ASrock motherboard, 775i65G v2.0, can handle Intel’s coming processors.
The motherboard is of the mATX standard and except from its Socket 775 socket the board offers an AGP8X slot and support for DDR400 memory. I.e. neither PCIe video cards or DDR2 memory, and the price is at the moment just a little more than €40. In other words, you will be able to run Intel’s coming processors with far more than just the hottest boards with latest features.
