Hitachi has as most harddrive manufacturers high hopes and expectations for the new perpendicular recording technology. Fujitsu recently launched its first 2.5″ harddrive using this technology and a capacity at 160GB. The same step has been taken by Hitachi now with another 160GB 2.5″ model, but it has even greater plans for next year. Hitachi has announced that it is going for a 230GB 2.5″ harddrive next year. Hitachi is usually quick to reach high storage capacities with its harddrives and the first 200GB+ 2.5″ harddrives are starting to feel quite close.
