AMD is closing up on the launch of its first 65nm processors. Previous information about the 65nm processors being available in stores was faulty as it was simply AMD’s low energy models of Athlon 64 which had been mistaken for the new 65nm models. HKEPC has now come across a date for when AMD’s first 65nm processors will be available on the market and it’s December 5. AMD will launch four new Athlon 64 X2-processors; X2 4000+, X2 4400+, X2 4800+ and X2 5000+.

The processors has a total of 1MB L2 cache, but run at higher frequencies than the 90nm predecessors. All models, except 5000+, has a 100MHz higher clock frequency, this is done through a 0.5x higher multiplier. The models will also carry a TDP of 65W instead of 89W, the only exception is X2 5000+ with a TDP of 76W. Whether there will be any price differences when compared to today’s models remains to be seen.
