The first Blu-ray players and movies were released in the USA just a few weeks ago, which in turn was about two months after that Toshiba debuted its first HD DVD products. We are still waiting for the next generation optical format in Europe. Toshiba says that it is ready to launch HD DVD in Europe on September 1 when the IFA opens in Berlin; one of the largest European electronics events. The Blu-ray camp is not as enthusiastic about Europe, Pioneer has announced that it has no concrete plans for when to launch in Europe, but believes stationary players should be ready before CES in Las Vegas in Januari of 2007. In other words it seems HD DVD will continue with its advantage in time also with the launch in Europe.
