AMD today has over 20% of the market for the x86 based PCs. Quite an achievement, not just because of Intel’s stong position, but also because of AMD’s relatively low production capacity. Now it seems that we have an answer to how it has managed to meet the high demand. AMD Fab 30 is according to AMD namely working at 150% capacity, which sounds a bit hard to believe but the plant was made to pump out 20 000 wafers a month, but is now doing 30 000 wafers a month. Really shows how important the new Fab 36 plant is to AMD. The new plant will take over the production of low end and mid-range processors.
