That Apple often has relatively good margins with its products is something most people agree on. A company that seems very interested in finding out exactly how much Apple makes from its products is iSuppli. They dissect Apple’s products, find out what the comonents csts and calculate what the total cost for the product will be. They’ve done it with Mac mini and some iPods, but now it is time for the Intel based iMac to face facts. Component, manufacturing and testing costs $899 according to iSuppli’s survey which means that Apple has a margin of quite unimaginable 44% with the new Intel iMac. About the same as the rest of Apple’s assortment though and the most expensive component is as you might have guessed Intel’s new Core Duo processor at 265$.
