On the 26th of April AMD will launch its first set of hexacore CPUs aiming at the consumer market. The Phenom II X6-series will be based on the current Phenom II architecture and even if this is a bit sad, there are benefits in the function and performance areas. The new series will use the same AM3 socket as today’s CPU’s and the only thing needed to utilize the new cores is a BIOS update.

Motherboard manufacturer ASUS has just published information that it has released updated BIOS’s for its entire M4-series of motherboards, updates which enables the use of said hexacore CPU.
”Besides being ready to support six-core processors, the ASUS M4 Series gives users of every level the best performance and value with its Core Unlocker feature. This has received notable recognition from many of the world’s top media organizations for delivering a phenomenal boost in performance.”
We can just hope that ASUS Core Unlocker also can be used to enable six cores in the upcoming Phenom II X3 T-series.
