DDR1 has been able to hold its ground for some time, but now the DDR2 memory technology has finally taken over as the dominating memory technology. In due time, if we get to say so, especially as AMD recently launched its first DDR2-SDRAM platform Socket AM2. The gap between DDR1 and DDR2 will only expand now that both Intel and AMD is going for the newer DDR2 technology. According to DRAMeXchange, which has summarized the statistics, the prices of DDR2 memories may become an issue once again. The prices have increased by almost 9% the last week because of the high demand. The higher prices are expected to stay put all the way through September when the schools are starting again and with them comes an increased interest for the PC market and thus also the DRAM market.
