Small preview imageiMac G5 and iMac Core Duo are by the looks almost identical, but under the hood there is one crucial thing separating them, namely the processor platform. iMac G5 uses IBM’s PowerPC G5 processor while iMac Core Dou uses Intel’s Core Duo processor. At Anandtech they’ve done a thorough comparison where they also check out what more there is separating the two. They also investigate some of the programs that are made for Apple’s x86 Mac and those who are emulated through Rosetta, which show some not so flattering results for iMac Core Duo.


iMac Core Dou is the faster computer at most things thanks to its extra core. However if you look at the performance/watt ratio which both Apple and Intel has been pushing for it is no doubt the Core Duo that has the advantage.
