Apple claims in its marketing that the new Intel based iMac Core Duo was up to 2 times as fast as the predecessor iMac G5. At Macworld they decided to test how much truth there was in this statement and as expected the result was pretty different from what Apple claims. With some tests you can see up to 1.8 times better performance with iMac Core Duo, but those were pretty rare and with some test the old iMac G5 was faster. Overall iMac Core Duo seems to be about 20% faster than the previous which isn’t quite as much as Apple claims, at the same time the programs you have to emulate through Rosetta runs at half speed compared to iMac G5.
