There was a lot of fuss a few days ago when Microsoft issued a critical update for all system based on Intel’s new Core processors. Dell first issued a large series of BIOS and softwaere updates for all of its Core-based systems and then Microsoft issued an update for its operating system. The information about what exactly happened have been sparse, but now both Theo de Raadt, of OpenBSD, and Linus Torvalds, have spoken up about the ”bugs” of the new architecture.

By the looks of it, this is no way worse than previous generation of processors and there is no real reason to be worried if you keep your system up to date.

All generation of processors have these kind of faults, it’s just a matter of time before they are revealed and patched, like this one. A couple of possible threats have been located, but since Windows have been patched and Linux was already protected, there is not much left to do then just move on. Below is a link to the patch for Microsoft Windows.
