Small preview image

Zonbu Zonbox is a really tiny being and probably among the most affordable we’ve run into so far. A computer for the mere price of $99, there is a catch though. It’s not your everyday computer but more of a personal networking client. It comes with 4GB of local storage and then use you connection to synchronize with the server to keep track of a lot more storage than what the local can hold. The computer is based on Linux and has the most common and popular applications installed and the operating system has been designed to be as simple as possible.

The hardware isn’t entirely known, but is suppose to be “Intel-like” and use 512MB RAM. The integrated graphics support up to 1400×1050 and hardware acceleration of MPEG-2.

Six USB ports, VGA output and even wireless network support. The catch is that they want you to sign up for a subscription at Zonbu. There is a couple of different subscription; from 25GB of server storage for $12.95 per month, up to 100GB for $19,95. When you sign a contract for two years it costs $99, if you want go monthly it costs $249.

Among the applications we have Firefox, MPlayer, Evolution, Pidgin, Skype, Azureus, OpenOffice, FSpot, GIMP and many more.

Gizmodo has a preview of this tiny creation and there is also a video at YouTube where they look at Zonbox.
