Penryn is the name of the coming core from Intel based on its 45nm manufacturing process. These aren’t suppose to arrive until the third quarter of next year, but already Intel has produced the first samples of this processor. A nice achievement one week before AMD has even managed to launch its first 65nm processor. These processors will head back to the design team for evaluation, but considering how well it managed with the Core architecture and the sped up launch of Kentsfield we can perhaps hope that the third quarter is a ”date” set with a good security margin and with some hope we will see the 3.5-4GHz retail processors rumors have been speaking of.
