Intel has made several moves the last few months that point to a serious expansion of its graphics circuit manufacturing. It has both applied for people for a project, which would work with integrating graphics circuits into the manufacturer’s CPUs and also made a large investment in graphics circuit manufacturer Imagination Technologies. Now the next report about Intel’s venture for new graphics circuits has appeared as it’s pretty obvious that it’s the chip giant that’s behind the new company Larrabee Development Group. It has namely published job ads at Intel’s website for this company and the description is the least to say interesting.

”working on the next generation of leading- edge graphics technologies. Towards this end, LDG is seeking hardware graphics engineers and/or architects (for lead position) in all aspects of graphics development. This includes component architecture, micro-architecture and performance simulation development.”

AMD/ATI’s and NVIDIA’s progress with GPGPUs is a highly plausible reason for Intel’s increased interest in graphics circuits. The question is exactly what the new company is suppose to do and if it will be working to compete in the high-end segment. We’re looking forward to hearing more about Larrabee Development Group, but until then you can head over to The Register and check out their article on the subject.
