PlayStation 3 will rely on NVIDIA’s expertise for the graphics circuit. NVIDIA’s specially dfesigned circuit goes by the name RSX and is suppsoe to be a variation of the G71 architecture. However there a number of difference and one of them might very well be that RSX will be handling the sound with Sony’s new game console. Charts from Sony about PlayStation 3 has surfaced, showing that the handling of the console’s 8 channel sound is sent through RSX before getting out. NVIDIA has supplied effective and quality audio solutions before, so this comes as at best a small surprise; SoundStorm is the best example, which was also used by Microsoft’s in its first Xbox console to get real-time DolbyDigital 5.1 encoding.
