Plasma TV and LCD TV are still in a wild fight for the consumers and market shares of the flatscreen TV market. The technologies present a number of advantages and disadvantages over the other. The LCD technology has the advantage of being easier to manufacture and push to higher resolutions, even with smaller panels. This is something that has been a problem with Plasma technology. Now it seems that Panasonic will eliminate this disadvantage on April 27 when it will launch a new series of Plasma TVs in Japan. One of the biggest news with this series is that it’s a 42″ Plasma TV with full HDTV resolution, I.e. 1920×1080 pixels. This will be the first 42″ Plasma TV sporting this resolution, which before this have only been available with models measuring 50″ or more.

Matsushita, the manufacturer behind the brand Panasonic, currently controls a third of the global Plasma TV market and have big plans to expand.

“Matsushita also plans to spend $2.4 billion to build the world’s largest plasma display factory, doubling the capacity of its existing plants, including the one due to come on line this summer.”
