The next generation SSDs are getting closer as Intel and Micron have announced shipping the first 25nm NAND Flash circuits. Intel-Micron Flash Technologies is the name of the joint venture that manufactures the chips and after successful testing back in February it is time for mass production of the 25nm circuits.
IMFT focuses on 8 GB NAND Flash circuits, which thanks 25nm technology only measures 167mm2 and can be used in anything from USB memories to SD memory cards and solid state drives.
When the first retail products using the new 25nm technology is yet to be announced, but previous information suggested that Intel’s next generation X25-M SSD family will appear in Q4 2010.
