Small preview image

AGEIA’s physics processor PhysX has just arrived and even if the number of games that support the circuit are relatively few there is a great insterest in the concept with enhanced physical effects. At PC Perspective they’ve now published a short preview of PhysX where they’ve tested a system with AGEIA’s physics processor and been able to compare the differences between PhysX and just regular physics. They’ve tested two game demos, Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter and Cell Factor that both sport PhysX and published several demos where they’ve played GRAW with and without PhysX to see how much of a difference there really is. The particle effects are clearly better with e.g. GRAW with PhysX, but hardly revolutionizing.

This is most likely because GRAW’s use of PhysX more than the circuit itself, but show that we are still in a pretty early stage with AGEIA’s physics processor. The potential is there, but we are still waiting for the real ”super game” that will really be able to show off AGEIA’s potential.
