Many consider ASUS as the mother of the netbook market, which is certainly growing. It was ASUS that launched the first netbook with its Eee PC, which created a whole new segment of ultraportable and cheap computers. Since then it has been working hard on getting new models out on the market while also bringing the Eee concept to other market, including desktop, keyboards and monitors. It has now revealed the launch date and specifications of a larger netbook, Asus Eee 1000HE.
This computer was presented during CES in January and is a follow-up to the ASUS Eee 1000H. The E at the end most likely stands for Extended, since its the better battery time which is the biggest change since the last model. When 1000H is supposed to do 7 hours without charge, 1000HE should do 9.5 hours with a 6 cell battery. This certainly looks promising and it looks to really deserve the epithet portable.
The remaining changes are that it sports a new Intel Atom processor, N280 instead of N270, and Intel’s newer GD40 chipset. The processor update doesn’t bring much of a clock frequency change, but a faster system bus from 533 MHz to 667 MHz, while the chipset update will have a bigger impact on the graphical performance and power consumption. Other specifications are 10″ LED display, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB harddrive, Bluetooth 2.0, web camera and 92%-scaled keyboard.
It will be available in blue and black and you can count on a price at 400€ at least. We expect ASUS Eee 1000HE to emerge before the end of next month.
