Intel will launch a new mid-range family of processors in the form of Sandy Bridge in January 2011. With them we will see the unveiling of the Intel 6 series chipsets, including the Cougar Point. It now seems there will be a version sporting a USB 3.0 controller.

Neither AMD or Intel have baked in support for SuperSpeed USB 3.0 with their chipsets, but since AMD seemed quite keen on doing so, Intel decided to speed up. At least according to new rumors, that says that Intel will reveal the new feature during Intel Developer Forum 2010 in San Franscisco on September 13th.

Integrated support for USB 3.0 from both AMD and Intel would certanly give the new technology a boost, which has already been integrated into many motherboards and notebooks.
