Processor giant Intel mad a lot of noise during CES 2010 with its Intel Wireless Display technology. Wi-Di technology uses a Wi-Fi protocol for wirelessly transferring images, audio and video from a PC to a HD TV. The technology was earlier demonstrated with notebooks, but Intel has bigger plans, for smaller devices. Intel has revealed that Wi-Di will appear in ultramobile devices, like tablets and smartphones.
Intel Wi-Di would make it possible to stream high definition video from a mobile phone to a HD monitor and with powerful mobile platforms, e.g. Moorestown, this is indeed possible.
Primarily Intel wants to get Wi-Di into notebooks where both Intel Core i5 and Core i7 support the technology. To make the technology and its use more efficient it is working with TV manufacturers and other partners to make sure there won’t be any additional hardware required for the wireless connection to work.
”The company is also confident that Wi-Fi technology will be able to handle transmission of high-definition content to TV sets. There is a half-second delay in displaying content between when it reaches a laptop to when it is shown on a TV. Over time, the company will try to cut that delay.” said Kerry Forrell, wireless display product manager at Intel
