Thermalright recently announced a tuned version of Ultra Extreme and the tuning more or less just comes down to one word: copper. Thermalright chose to make True Copper from nothing but copper and make an already massive cooler even more massive. The weight is nearly 2kg and should make most motherboards tremble in fear. With an extremely high weight and large contact surface, the performance should perhaps reflect that. Over at Expreview they have now published the first benchmarks with Thermalright’s new beast and it looks promising.
They have tested and compared the cooler to the sibling Thermalright True Black. The coolers keep the same temperature when the CPU is idle, while under load True Black peaks at 71oC while True Copper stops at 67 oC. Not a great difference, but then again these are perhaps the two best coolers available today and the only difference is the material. It would be interesting to see a comparison to other high-end models from other manufacturers.
We will have our own results with Thermalright Ultra-120 True Copper shortly and with an angle we’re sure you will appreciate. How many of the 3000 samples that will reach a store near you is impossible to day, but you can count on a price north of $110 and that does not include the cost for shipping near 2kg copper…
