Microsoft has reached the end station for its first large update bundle for Windows 7. Service Pack 1 is now in RTM (Release To Manufacturing) and have started shipping to partners and system builders. On February 16 the update package is expected to appear on TechNet and MSDN, while Windows Update will hold off until February 22nd.

Windows 7 SP1 will bundle several of earlier released updates for the operating system, but also offer some new functionality and updates. This includes RemoteFX that enables users to enjoy both 3D graphics and multimedia over remote desktop connections. This is made possible through a technology called host-based rendering where the host does all the work and then compress the video stream and sends it to the remote client. This makes it possible to use other technologies on multiple monitors, Aero interface and multimedia streaming.

SP1 for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2088 R2 will roll out to TechNet and MSND subscribers early next week, starting February 16th, while regular users will have to wait until February 22nd when the update package will appear on Windows Update and Microsoft Download Center.
