Mobile World Congress 2009 has opened its doors and one of the first really interesting news we can report on covers Microsoft’s operating system for smartphones; Windows Mobile. The new version is 6.5 and present numerous news to make the operating system more userfriendly, flexible and powerful. Something that might be needed since many are jumping the ship and switching to other operating systems when possible, and it’s hard to argue for it when other have moved past it in the development.
There are three main news that aims to improve the user interaction. First of all a new Graphical User Interface (GUI) that intends to enable users quick access to more features without losing the overview. It has also optimized a touchscreen function for finger-touching, not pencil. It also includes a new version of the browser Internet Explorer Mobile.
The second big news is that it has included a new function called ’My Phone’, which is a synchronization function through the web. It works so that you will always have a back-up of the phone content and easily transfer and synchronize contacts, meetings, videos, pictures, etc, between the phone and your ”My Phone” account.
The last piece of revolutionizing news covers buying content for your mobile phone, something that has been growing rapidly. Microsoft will launch a functions called Windows Marketplace for Mobile. This is, hold your breath, a kind of marketplace where independent developers can easily upload applications developed for mobile phones. After being validated by Microsoft the program will be available to everyone accessing the marketplace and ”make the phone truly personal”. If we’re not mistaking this is already available with another phone?
The phones that will support an upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.5 is LG-GM7300, HTC Touch Diamond 2, HTC Touch Pro 2 and Sony Ericsson Xperia X1.
