Elpida has announced the world’s first 2 Gb DDR2 SDRAM running at 1066 Mbps. The new memory is 30 % faster and consumes 20 % less power compared with Elpida’s current 2 Gb SDRAM. The new chips will be sampled the coming month and mass production will begin before the end of the year. The new chips will be used to meet demands for 8 GB registered DRAM for servers, 4 GB DDR2 DIMMs and 4 GB DDR2 SO-DIMMs. The new 2 Gb DDR2 chip features more advanced power consumption compared with 1 Gb DDP products (1 Gb DRAM 2-chip single Packages).
